Free or Low Cost Child Friendly Activities
Having a baby can be expensive, but it shouldn’t cost of your sanity or your little one’s enjoyment and development.
We’ve done the work of finding all the free or low cost baby friendly activities in Sydney, so that you can spend more time making memories together.
Baby Rhyme Time: Baby Rhyme Time will likely be offered at your local Library. Some Libraries will require that you enroll in advance, others will keep spaces free for walk ins. Baby Rhyme time consists of songs, games and reading time facilitated by a librarian. The activities cover a large range of age groups and sessions are often broken up into baby and toddler.
Play Groups: Most councils will offer a free or low cost playgroup that is often facilitated by qualified Early Childhood professionals. Play groups usually involve getting to know other parents with babies of a similar age, songs, games and links to support services.
Kids Play Sessions: Many recreation centres offer kids play sessions that you can attend with your child. These sessions usually include soft play obstacle courses, ball play and gymnastics based activities. Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre is a great place to take your child for play sessions in the Canterbury/Bankstown area.
Australia Museum: The Australian Museum (Sydney) offers a range of activities and exhibits targeted towards children. The Dinosaur Exhibit is a hit for toddlers through to school aged children and the Burra play area offers STEM and creative arts activities for toddlers and up.
Adventure Parks: For anyone with a busy toddler, adventure parks are an excellent free option that are easily accessible in most areas of Sydney. Some great options include: Blaxland Riverside Park (Sydney Olympic Park), Fairfield Adventure Park (Fairfield), Parramatta Park (Parramatta), Auburn Botanic Gardens (Auburn)
Featherdale Wildlife Park: Featherdale offers various animal exhibits including interactive exhibits for children of all ages. Children 0-2 years enter for free and 3-15 must purchase a ticket.
